Natural Remedy for IBS: 5-HTP and Its Benefits as Adjunct Therapy Option

5-HTP is a vital ingredient that has gained popularity in recent years as a natural remedy for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or spastic colon. This ingredient is extracted from the seeds of the Griffonia simplicifolia herb, which is native to Africa. The active component of 5-HTP plays an essential role in converting tryptophan into serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates various functions in the body.

IBS is a common gastrointestinal disorder characterized by symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. While its exact cause remains unknown, many gastroenterologists believe it may stem from neurological factors. Prolonged stress, anxiety, and insomnia can lead to central nervous system disorders that affect intestinal nerves through the brain-gut axis, causing abnormal contractions in the colon.

Research indicates that 5-HTP can alleviate IBS symptoms by increasing serotonin levels in the body and adjusting the activity of the central nervous system and intestinal nerves. Additionally, it can reduce intestinal spasms, aid digestion and produce better stools. Furthermore, 5-HTP has been found to improve psychological issues often associated with IBS like depression and anxiety by creating a sense of optimism and joy.

To maximize its benefits for treating IBS, Vietnamese scientists have combined 5-HTP with other medicinal herbs such as arachnids, astragalus, and white dahlia known for their stomach-strengthening properties. The result is Trang Phuc Linh Plus – a product specifically designed for spastic colon disease or IBS. Studies show that Trang Phuc Linh Plus tablets effectively regulate intestinal motility, reduce colon spasms and restore the mucosa of the digestive tract. A survey conducted at the end of December 2023 revealed that 98% of users were satisfied with the product. It’s important to note that Trang Phuc Linh Plus is not a medication and should not be used as a replacement for prescribed treatments but rather as an adjunct therapy option for people suffering from IBS or spastic colon disease.
