Joey Logano took the victory in the chaotic five-overtime finish of the NASCAR race in Nashville, while Carson Hocevar finished 16th despite intentionally spinning Harrison Burton under caution. The incident occurred after Brad Keselowski hit the wall following contact with Austin Dillon on the track. Despite not being penalized during the race itself, Hocevar was fined $50,000 and received a 25-point penalty from NASCAR for his actions.
The inconsistency in penalties between different NASCAR series was highlighted when Layne Riggs was penalized for reckless driving in the Truck Series race, while Hocevar escaped in-race punishment. However, the penalty pushed Hocevar from 22nd to 24th in the standings, now 181 points outside of the playoff cutoff. To secure a playoff spot, he will need to win one of the final seven regular-season races, which will be a challenging task based on his limited success so far this season.
The incident also impacts the Rookie of the Year race, with Hocevar now trailing Josh Berry by 50 points in the rookie standings. Burton, on the other hand, finished 28th and continues to struggle this season where he currently sits 33rd in the points standings.
