A rubber molding company in New Philadelphia is seeking to expand its business by rezoning a residential property to industrial. MPS Manufacturing, based in New Philadelphia, sells its products in 35 different countries and is looking to create a CNC mold shop in an existing building at 407 Kaserman Ave. NE.
The company has recently acquired a machine shop in Tallmadge and is moving it to New Philadelphia, which will also create one new job. The company hopes to bring in some aerospace work. MPS Manufacturing was started in 2005 and has grown to employ 18 workers, having recently hired another employee. They supply the entire North American GM Truck market with various rubber moldings and have nine robots in its plant.
Service Director Ron McAbier praised the company, urging council members to see “what they do over there.” The city’s planning commission has already approved the zoning change, and an ordinance is in the process of receiving its final readings. A public hearing will be held before the measure gets its third reading, marking an important step in the expansion process.
