Metsä Board, a subsidiary of the Metsä Group, has announced an investment in the renovation of a folding carton machine located in Simpele as part of a larger investment program. The value of this investment is approximately EUR 60 million and will be spread over the years 2024–2026. The company has stated that the investment will commence immediately and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.
The decision to invest in the renovation of the folding board machine in Simpele is part of a ten-year modernization program for cardboard production announced on March 21. This program aims to enhance production capabilities and sustainability by implementing improvements in stages.
Metsä Board’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is reflected in this decision to invest in the future of cardboard production. Following the renovation, the factory’s production capacity will increase by about 10,000 tons, bringing the annual production capacity of Simpele folding carton to approximately 310,000 tons.
This investment represents a significant step towards improving both operations and environmental impact at the folding carton machine in Simpele. With its focus on innovation and sustainability, Metsä Board continues to position itself as a leader in cardboard production within Finland and beyond.
