The highly anticipated match between Argentina and Uruguay took place at Estadio La Bombonera in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Following the game, Lionel Messi appeared dejected as his team fell to defeat.

In an effort to raise funds for charity, six shirts worn by Messi during Argentina’s triumphant run at the 2022 World Cup will be auctioned off. The collection is expected to become the most valuable collection of sports memorabilia ever sold, with one of the shirts included being the one Messi wore during the first half of the final in Qatar. Bidding for the shirts will open on November 30th and close on December 14th, with Sotheby’s hosting the auction.

The proceeds from the sale will support the UNICAS Project, which helps children suffering from rare diseases. Although Sotheby’s has not disclosed how much they expect to donate from the sale, it is certain that it will be a significant amount. The current record for the highest price paid for a game-worn sports memorabilia item is held by Michael Jordan’s jersey from the opening game of the 1998 NBA Final, which sold for $10.1 million last year.
