Measles Alert: International Traveler Exposes New Hampshire Residents to Contagious Disease

On Saturday, June 22, an international visitor traveled from Boston to Amsterdam using public transportation. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has issued an alert regarding the possible measles exposure from this individual. The person traveled on the Dartmouth Coach bus line in Hanover, NH at 11:40 a.m. and then continued to Boston, MA arriving at Logan Airport around 2:40 p.m. From there, the individual was on Flight KLM6016 from Boston to Amsterdam from 2:40 p.m. to 8:40 p.m.

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed that the individual was in various areas between June 20-22, including the Dartmouth College campus, Hanover Inn, Hanover Scoops, and Lou’s Restaurant and Bakery in Hanover. Measles is an extremely contagious disease that can spread easily through close contact with an infected person or by touching contaminated surfaces or objects. Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes before a body rash develops. Those experiencing such symptoms should contact a healthcare provider before visiting any medical facility to prevent further spread of the disease.

Public Health Commissioner Robbie Goldstein, MD, PhD warns that measles has been experiencing an increase in cases and outbreaks worldwide due to its highly contagious nature and ease of transmission through travelers who are unvaccinated or have not had their booster shots up-to-date. Therefore, it is crucial for individuals who have recently traveled abroad or may have been exposed to someone with measles symptoms to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect themselves and those around them from potential infection.

In conclusion, it is important for individuals who have recently traveled abroad or may have been exposed to someone with measles symptoms to take precautions and ensure they are vaccinated against the disease as soon as possible to prevent further spread and protect themselves and those around them from potential infection.
