Lyon Names Pierre Sage New Permanent Head Coach, Hires Additional Staff Members to Strengthen Backroom Team

Lyon has announced that Pierre Sage will be taking on the role of the new permanent head coach for the team. Sage had been serving as interim coach since last November when he took over for Fabio Grosso during a difficult period for the club in Ligue 1.

Under Sage’s leadership, Lyon has managed to secure qualification for the Europa League and advance to the final of the Coupe de France. These successes have led the club to officially offer Sage the position of head coach on a permanent basis.

As part of Sage’s new role, three additional staff members will be joining his backroom team. One of the new members includes former Valenciennes coach Jorge Maciel, who will be in charge of overseeing training methodology for the team.

Sage’s contract as head coach will continue until June 2026, signalling the club’s confidence in his abilities to lead Lyon to further successes in the future.
