Liverpool Surprises Fans with Late Substitute Anthony Gordon in Euro 2024 Match against Slovenia

In a surprising turn of events, Liverpool forward Anthony Gordon made a late appearance as a substitute for England in their recent Euro 2024 match against Slovenia. The news came as a shock to many fans, as Gordon was the subject of a proposed deal with Newcastle United just months before.

Gordon signed with Newcastle for a hefty sum in January 2023 and has been a standout player for the Magpies ever since. Despite Liverpool’s admiration for the 23-year-old, they chose not to pursue the deal. Gordon scored an impressive 11 goals in the league last season and was named the club’s player of the season for 2023-24.

On the other hand, Liverpool was not willing to part ways with young centre-back Jarell Quansah. The 21-year-old has become a regular starter for the team and was even included in the preliminary England squad for Euro 2024. With a strong lineup of forwards including Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota, Liverpool did not find it necessary to add Gordon to their squad.

Despite their initial interest in Gordon, Liverpool ultimately rejected Newcastle’s offer as they did not see it as beneficial for them. Paris St-Germain is also reportedly interested in Gordon, adding another layer of competition to his future. Newcastle United has been contacted for comment regarding the failed deal with Liverpool.
