The Kai Tak Sports Park Limited and ASM Global have announced a late-winter testing period for Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park, a $4 billion multi-venue sports district project. The centerpiece of the nearly 70-acre district is the Kai Tak Stadium, a 50,000-seat venue with a retractable roof and flexible playing surface known as “the Pearl of the Orient.”
The district is designed around the Kai Tak Sports Avenue, an indoor/outdoor through-way that connects the venues and includes amenities such as restaurants, retail shops, jogging trails, a health and wellness center, a bowling center with 40 lanes, and a climbing wall. Landscape architecture design was provided by ADI Limited, and engineering services were handled by Arup.
The sustainability focus of the district includes solar panels on each facility, green roofscapes in the design, and an extensive network of electric charging stations throughout. Smart city initiatives will also be implemented, including an intelligent building and car management system, Wi-Fi hotspots, an indoor positioning system, and mobile applications for booking facilities and wayfinding within the precinct.
