Japan Land Successfully on the Moon: Achievement Adds to Country’s Space Exploration Commitment

Japan has successfully landed a spacecraft on the moon, becoming the fifth country to achieve this feat. The Slim moon lander, part of the Japanese Space Administration (Jaxa), recently emerged from a two-week lunar night and was confirmed to be awake by Jaxa. A picture taken by Slim of the Moon’s crater was shared by Jaxa, showcasing the lander’s success. However, the lander has faced challenges due to hitting the Moon’s surface at an incorrect angle, causing its solar panels to not face the right direction. Additionally, the lander is not designed to withstand extreme cold temperatures at night which can drop to 130 degrees below zero.

Japan’s successful lunar landing adds it to the list of nations that have accomplished this feat alongside the United States, Russia (at the time Soviet Union), China and India. This achievement is a testament to Japan’s commitment to space exploration and technology.
