As the 2024 Knights prepare for fall camp, this position-by-position breakdown begins with the running back position. With the departure of several key players, including John Rhys Plumlee and Timmy McClain, the Knights have reshaped their quarterback room. However, with the addition of KJ Jefferson and Jacurri Brown, they have a solid group of quarterbacks to lead the team.
The projected depth chart includes Jefferson as QB1, Brown as QB2, Dylan Rizk as QB3, Riley Trujillo as QB4, and EJ Colson as QB5. Meanwhile, at the running back position, there are several newcomers that will be competing for playing time.
Newcomer Jalen Johnson is expected to be a key piece in the Knights’ rushing attack. Johnson is a sophomore transfer from Georgia Tech where he rushed for 689 yards in his freshman year before sitting out last season due to injury. Another newcomer is senior transfer Chance Amie who comes from Texas A&M where he had over 1000 rushing yards in his junior season before declaring for the NFL draft.
In addition to these newcomers, redshirt sophomore Tyree Simpkins will also be competing for playing time after seeing limited action last season. Freshman Travis Owens is also expected to see some action after impressing during spring practice.
With so much talent in their ranks and a solid depth chart in place, the Knights are well positioned to succeed on offense as they enter their second year in the Big 12 conference. Stay tuned for the next installment of this position-by-position breakdown as we take a look at their wide receivers and tight ends positions.
