At the programmatic conference of Fratelli d’Italia “Italy changes Europe” in Pescara, Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, expressed his vision for creating Italian technology that would involve small, medium, and large companies. The focus would be on the Mediterranean region, both geopolitically and in terms of energy and other sectors related to defense. Folgiero considered this project to be significant with great potential.
Folgiero highlighted Italy’s proximity to the Mediterranean as a crucial factor that makes it a vital region geopolitically. The sea is home to numerous submarine cables, telecommunication lines, gas pipelines, and critical infrastructures that need protection. He also emphasized the potential for economic and technological growth in the region due to the presence of mining activities. Fincantieri, known for its underwater expertise, plans to produce smaller submarines and drones ranging from three to nine meters. These would be used by the Italian Navy to safeguard critical infrastructures in the Mediterranean.
