It is predicted that Italians will spend a total of 2.5 billion euros on their Easter lunch this year. The average budget per person is around 40 euros, with those who choose to dine at a restaurant spending an additional 10 euros per person. According to a survey conducted by Ipsos, these figures remain consistent with last year’s for 56% of Italians, while 27% plan to spend more and 17% are looking to save compared to last year.
The survey also reveals that 65% of Italians will be celebrating Easter with a lunch at their own or a relative’s home, while 12% will opt for a restaurant setting and 9% will be traveling. Another 4% will be celebrating at friends’ houses or in a park or outdoor location. Traditional Easter foods such as chocolate eggs (68%), doves (65%), seasonal vegetables and cured meats (both 48%), grilled meats (42%), and boiled eggs or local preparations (36%) will be present on Italian tables. Additionally, 34% of households will have lamb, 22% will offer savory or sweet pizzas, and 7% will include vegan dishes in their celebrations.
On Easter Monday, only about one-third of Italians (34%) plan to have lunch at their own or a relative’s home, while the rest plan to go out and enjoy the holiday weekend. Those who plan to travel out of town make up around 16%, followed by those who plan to spend time in parks (13%) or at friends’ houses (12%) or restaurants (9%) or while traveling (5%).
