The background of Israel’s release of two hostages in a raid on Rafah that lasted an hour and a half

In the south of the Gaza Strip, Israeli forces launched a daring raid to free two hostages held by Hamas. The mission was carried out by intelligence services, elite units, and air forces, and lasted an hour and a half.

The operation began with explosives being used to raid the apartment where the hostages were being held. The three captors were killed instantly, while the special forces shielded the hostages with their bodies. The Shayetet 13 commando of the navy and the 7th Armored Brigade covered their escape.

After undergoing medical tests, Marman and Har were found in good condition and reunited with their families in Israel. Only one of the men involved in the raid was slightly injured.

The two hostages, both Israelis with dual Argentine nationality, had been kidnapped during a violent Hamas attack on Kibbutz Nir Yiyzhak on October 7. Marman and Har were kidnapped together with Clara Marman, sister of the first, and companion of the second. A third sister, Gabriela, and her 17-year-old daughter Mia Leimberg were also kidnapped.

This liberation marks only the second successful operation of its kind since the beginning of the war. Another operation failed and resulted in a hostage’s death. In another dramatic episode, three hostages who managed to free themselves were killed by mistake by Israeli soldiers.

Hamas has announced that three of Israel’s injured hostages have died as a result of Israeli raids in Gaza Strip
