Injury Sidelines Patrick Cantlay From John Deere Classic, but His Successful Season Continues on Track

Patrick Cantlay’s injury has cast uncertainty over his participation in the Royal Troon, as he withdrew from the John Deere Classic due to an injury sustained during training. While he did not provide specific details about the injury, it is unfortunate that it comes at a time when he was set to make his debut at the John Deere Classic this week.

Despite missing out on a chance to win his ninth PGA Tour title and compete in the British Open at Royal Troon next month, Cantlay has had a successful season so far. He has four top-10 finishes, including a T3 at the U.S. Open and a T5 at the Travelers Championship. His only missed cut came in February at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but he has been consistent throughout the season and is currently ranked No. 8 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

With Cantlay out of action for three weeks until the British Open, Jordan Spieth is one of the notable names competing in the John Deere Classic this week. Spieth won the tournament in 2015 and has a chance to earn a spot in next month’s major championship if he finishes as one of the top two players on the leaderboard who are not already exempt from it. The absence of Cantlay could make Spieth’s quest for qualification even more challenging, but with his proven track record and talent on course, he remains a formidable contender for victory this week at TPC Deere Run.
