Indian Archers Miss Out on Medals at Archery World Cup 2024 Stage 2 in Yecheon, South Korea: A Detailed Analysis of India’s Performance and Future Prospects

The Indian recurve archers failed to secure any medals at the Archery World Cup 2024 Stage 2 in Yecheon, South Korea. Deepika Kumari, the lone Indian archer with a chance at a medal on the final day, lost the women’s individual recurve archery bronze medal match to Mexico’s Alejandra Valencia 6-4. Valencia had previously won the mixed team bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Deepika had earlier lost to eventual gold medallist Lim Sihyeon of South Korea in the semi-finals.

Despite her loss, India managed to secure two medals at Stage 2. The women’s compound team, consisting of World champion Aditi Swami, Asian Games champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam, and Parneet Kaur, won the gold medal. Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Priyansh clinched silver in the mixed compound team competition.

At Stage 1 in Shanghai, India had won eight medals – five gold, two silvers, and one bronze. In contrast, both men’s teams were eliminated in the second round of this tournament as well as women’s teams. However, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Praveen Jadhav made it through to the quarterfinals of men’s individual recurve event before losing out to eventual champions from China and Japan respectively.

The next stage of Archery World Cup 2024 will take place in Antalya, Turkey from June 18th to June 23rd. This event will also serve as a qualifying event for Paris 2024 Olympics
