IKEA Introduces ‘The Co-Worker Game’ on Roblox, Offering a Virtual Employment Experience

IKEA, the renowned furniture retailer, is set to disrupt the gaming industry with the launch of “The Co-Worker Game” on Roblox on June 24. This groundbreaking venture not only marks IKEA’s first foray into mainstream gaming but also introduces an innovative virtual career concept to its digital universe.

Players will be able to immerse themselves in the IKEA philosophy and experience non-linear career paths and cross-departmental movement within the game. The goal is to provide a realistic simulation of the IKEA working environment, allowing players to experiment with various tasks and progress professionally within the game, reflecting real-world experiences.

With just five days left until June 16, 2024, IKEA is currently accepting applications for 10 paid positions within the game. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to interact with customers, hone their skills, and advance through the ranks by transitioning between departments and taking on new responsibilities. Virtual interviews for successful candidates will be conducted between June 14 and 18, 2024, with each paid player receiving an hourly wage based on IKEA’s standard rates.

Aside from the paid roles, “The Co-Worker Game” offers all players access to a virtual world filled with exclusive user-generated content (UGC). Users can visit iconic Swedish food markets and IKEA bistros, serve meatballs or explore different exhibition rooms while organizing spaces with IKEA products. This not only enhances the gaming experience but also provides players with unique opportunities to access UGC created by other users.

Darren Taylor, Country People and Culture Manager for IKEA UK and Ireland, stated that this initiative highlights how careers are done differently at IKEA. “We believe that our people can move freely between roles and departments while still growing both in-game and in real life,” he said. “At IKEA there is no defined path for career progression – our people can change roles as they choose.”
