Devin Cooley, a 27-year-old native of Los Gatos, has signed a two-year contract with the Calgary Flames. His first year will be structured as a two-way deal, worth $775,000 in the NHL and $400,000 in the AHL. Cooley made his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks in the 2023-24 season, starting six games after the trade of Kaapo Kahkonen to the New Jersey Devils.
Cooley became the first Bay Area native to play in net for the Sharks. In his six appearances with the team, he posted a 2-3-1 record and earned his first NHL victory in overtime against the St. Louis Blues on April 6. After announcing his contract with the Flames, Cooley expressed his gratitude to the Sharks organization and fanbase, stating that he will continue to support the team as a fan.
With Cooley’s departure, the Sharks will be searching for a new No. 3 goalie to join Mackenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek. The team will look to fill this role as they move forward into the upcoming season.
