Business Campus land sale proposal under consideration by Wausau committee

Green Tree Construction, a Stevens Point-based company, has proposed to buy 6 acres of city-owned land at the Business Campus in Wausau for residential development. Half of the property will be given away for free, while the remaining half will be sold for $38,750. The wetlands surrounding the parcel are valued at $12,500 per acre and included in the price.

Wausau Economic Development Manager Randy Fifrick stated that the city does not currently collect taxes on the land as it is owned by Wausau. By selling the land for residential development, the city hopes to provide much-needed housing while generating tax revenue. The Green Tree Meadows subdivision was approved by the Wausau City Council in March after receiving approvals from several committees and commissions earlier that year. This residential development will be an extension of previously approved single-family homes in the area.
