Google has announced that its generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, Gemini Nano, will soon be available on the standard version of the Pixel 8 smartphone family. This marks a significant step in making AI more accessible to users on a wider range of devices.
Gemini Nano is the smallest version of Google’s large language models (LLM) and is optimized to run generative AI directly on the device. This makes it similar to the Pixel 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24 series. While it was previously stated that the LLM would not reach the Pixel 8 due to hardware limitations, Google has now confirmed that this will no longer be the case.
The announcement was made by Seang Chau, vice president of devices and software services at Google, during a developer preview. He confirmed that an expected release date for Gemini Nano on the Pixel 8 is June, alongside new functionalities with Android 14 QPR3. These new features include ‘Summary’ in the recorder tool and Gboard Smart Reply.
Google continues to push boundaries in AI technology and make it more accessible to users through its devices. With Gemini Nano now available on the standard version of the Pixel 8, users can experience even more advanced AI capabilities than ever before.
