Global Leaders Discuss Responsible AI Development at US-Organized Conference in Vietnam

In Ho Chi Minh City, policymakers and technology experts from 15 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region gathered for the AI Connect II Regional Conference. The event, organized by the US Department of State, the Atlantic Council, and the Department of Science and Technology, took place from April 22 to 24. Nearly 100 participants, including policymakers, senior managers, technology companies’ representatives, scholars, and regional organizations, discussed the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and shared experiences and suitable solutions for the region.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy highlighted the importance of international cooperation for the sustainable development of AI technology in the Asia-Pacific region. He emphasized the potential benefits of AI for economic and social development while acknowledging concerns related to its socio-economic and ethical implications. Vietnam has developed a National Strategy and Policy to leverage the benefits of AI responsibly, invest in AI research and development, and incorporate AI into specific industries like transportation and healthcare.

The Deputy Consul General of the US in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Anne Benjaminson, stressed the significance of responsible AI development according to OECD principles.
