Global Celebrations of Unity: The Significance and Traditions Surrounding Easter

Easter, the most significant festival in the Christian calendar, is being celebrated around the world. Thousands of worshippers gathered at St. Peter’s square to witness Pope Francis lead Easter Sunday Mass. According to the Bible, Jesus was resurrected on this day, three days after his crucifixion on Good Friday.

Catholic devotees received Holy communions from priests at St. Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitiya, Sri Lanka, while religious leaders led Easter Sunday Mass and vigils at other churches such as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem’s Old City and the Grand Immaculate Church in Al-Hamdaniya, Iraq.
