The San Francisco Giants have been hit with a blow as rookie left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right ankle sprain. This news was announced before Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels at Oracle Park.
In Harrison’s absence, the Giants recalled right-handed pitcher Spencer Bivens from Triple-A Sacramento. To make room for Bivens on the 26-man roster, the team released righty Nick Avila.
Harrison had been a crucial member of the Giants’ rotation this season, making 14 starts and posting a 3.96 ERA in 77 1/3 innings pitched with 68 strikeouts and 22 walks. On the other hand, Bivens has been used as a reliever in Triple-A, recording a 2.81 ERA with 36 strikeouts, 16 walks, and eight saves in 41 2/3 innings pitched for the River Cats.
Initially scheduled to start Sunday’s series finale against the Angels, Harrison will now be replaced by lefty Erik Miller in the pitching lineup. Fans are urged to download and follow the Giants Talk Podcast for more updates and news on this developing story.
