In honor of National HIV Testing Day, Open Door Health Center of Illinois is joining forces with Walgreens to offer free testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections in DeKalb. The testing event will take place on June 27 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Walgreens located at 100 W. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb.
Individuals who attend the event will have the opportunity to receive rapid HIV and hepatitis C testing, as well as tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia. The rapid test results for HIV and hepatitis C will be available in just 20 minutes, while the remaining test results will be provided within five to seven business days. In addition to testing, participants will also have access to PrEP and treatment referrals and counseling.
Perry Maier, the executive director of Open Door Health Center of Illinois, emphasized the importance of getting tested to know one’s status and make informed decisions about their health care needs. Maier also highlighted the benefits of early engagement in care for better health outcomes. Open Door has been participating in National HIV Testing Day for over 20 years and is proud to collaborate with Walgreens in the DeKalb community.
