From Movie Set to Luxurious Home: Owning a Piece of ‘Home Alone’ History

The red-brick Georgian Colonial home featured in the iconic 1990 holiday film “Home Alone” starring Macaulay Culkin is once again up for sale. Priced at $5.25 million, this historic property has caught the attention of movie fans eager to own a piece of cinematic history.

Originally purchased by the Abendshien family in 1988 for $800,000, the house served as the backdrop for many memorable scenes from the film. During filming, the crew used the entire house as a main shooting location while the Abendshien family resided on the second floor in a makeshift apartment. Since then, current owners Trisha and John Johnson have updated much of the interior to give it a modern touch while still preserving some of its original charm.

Trisha Johnson shared with The Journal that they wanted to maintain certain iconic elements from “Home Alone” that hold a special place in fans’ hearts, including the front door and central staircase. While exploring Zillow listings, potential buyers will find contemporary fixtures that differ from those seen in the original movie set, but they can still appreciate these historic features that make this house such an important part of popular culture.
