The Student Startup program, Raising Men & Women Lawn Care, is designed to teach teens the skills needed to provide lawn care services, start their own businesses and become successful adults. Eli Isaacs, the program lead, uses lawn mowing as a way to help teenage boys transition into manhood and build confidence in their abilities.
Through the program, teens mow lawns for free for people in need. Once they have completed 50 lawns, they receive $500 worth of mowing equipment to start their own business. Darius Hancock, a participant who will be a freshman this year, has found the program both fun and educational in learning about mowing and running a business. He plans on applying these skills to starting his own mowing business in the future.
Similarly, Jaquin Santivanez has also found value in the program by learning how to give back to the community and help those in need. Liam Ramsey sees the program as an opportunity to help others and bring positivity into people’s lives through volunteering and mentoring.
The Raising Men & Women Lawn Care program aims to develop skills related to mowing lawns and running businesses while instilling values of community service and helping those in need. Participants expressed satisfaction with their ability to give back to the community and improve the lives of others through their mowing services.
