Fresno Residents Feel the Heat of the June Lightning Complex Fire with Unhealthy Air Quality Levels

Smoke from the June Lightning Complex Fire has reached Fresno, and residents in the city and surrounding counties may be feeling its effects. Communities in the foothills near the fire are experiencing unhealthy air quality levels due to the smoke.

According to Heather Heinks from the Valley Air District, red and purple air quality ratings indicate very unhealthy conditions. Residents in these areas are advised to stay indoors, use air purifiers, and possibly evacuate if needed to protect themselves from the smoke.

If you are exposed to smoke, Heinks recommends taking steps to help your body recover, such as getting into an area with filtered air, showering, changing into fresh clothes, and staying hydrated. It is important to flush your system to reduce the impact of the foreign particles in the air.

While those farther from the fire may not smell the smoke now, Heinks cautioned that the situation could change suddenly. In such cases, it is advisable to invest in a clean air purifier for your home to create a safe indoor environment.

Heinks emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable populations like the elderly, children, individuals with respiratory issues, and pets from the smoke. Limiting time outdoors and creating a sealed, purified space indoors can help reduce their exposure.
