New College Basketball Crown Tournament from Fox Sports Set to Debut in 2025 as NIT Rival

The NIT tournament, a consolation tournament for teams that missed out on the NCAA Tournament, is set to return this year. Fox Sports has announced that they will be hosting the 16-team College Basketball Crown tournament, which will take place in Las Vegas’ MGM Garden Arena and MGM Arena from March 31, 2025 to April 6. The tournament will feature at-large participants and men’s teams only.

The remaining teams after automatic bids went to two squads from the Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East conferences will be selected by a committee based on their overall performance during the season. AEG is a presenting sponsor of the event, which will be aired on both Fox and FS1.

The NIT has been around since 1938 and serves as an important opportunity for teams to gain valuable experience and exposure before entering the transfer portal. This year’s NIT final, which will be televised on ESPN, is set to take place on Thursday and will feature a matchup between Indiana State and Seton Hall.
