Exploring the Application of Mixed Methods in Political Economy: A Workshop at the 2024 APSA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA

Join us for a Comparative & Multi-Method Approaches workshop at the 2024 APSA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday, September 4. Co-Leaders will support early career researchers in exploring the application of mixed methods to political economy questions.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to utilize multiple methodologies to investigate key political economy issues such as redistribution, democratization, economic policy, unionization, and social policy. The goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of variation in democratic policy and politics across different countries.

Researchers are encouraged to apply if they are using two or more research methods in their thesis. While individual chapters may focus on a single method, participants should be prepared to discuss how their work fits into their broader dissertation. Research on any area within political economy and any geographic focus is welcome.

This workshop is part of APSA’s annual sponsorship of in-person and virtual dissertation workshops. In-person events take place the Wednesday before the Annual Meeting, while virtual workshops occur over a three-week period in the summer. Each workshop includes presentations from six PhD candidates and is led by two faculty members who facilitate discussions. Apply by May 19, 2024, for a chance to participate in this exciting research opportunity.

The 2024 APSA Annual Meeting will be held in Philadelphia, PA from September 3-7th and will bring together scholars from all areas of political science for a week of panels, workshops, and networking opportunities.

The Comparative & Multi-Method Approaches workshop offers an excellent opportunity for early career researchers to learn about using multiple research methods to explore complex political economy questions. Participants will have the chance to share their research with other scholars and gain valuable insights into how different methodologies can be combined effectively.
