Chelsea winger Omari Hutchinson is set to join Ipswich in a club-record deal, pending a medical examination. During last season, he made 20 starts for Ipswich in the Championship, along with 24 appearances off the bench. The transfer fee is said to be around £20m initially, with potential add-ons of £2.5m based on performance.
Ipswich’s top priority after his impressive loan spell in the Championship was Hutchinson, who managed to score 10 goals and offer six assists. This played a significant role in Ipswich’s unexpected automatic promotion to the league after finishing in second place under the guidance of manager Kieran McKenna. The expected completion of this deal will also benefit Chelsea, allowing them to meet Premier League financial regulations.
Originally representing England up to under-19 level, Hutchinson has since switched his allegiance to Jamaica. He has made two appearances for Chelsea after transferring from Arsenal in 2022.
