The new bridge that spans 549 meters in length and 44 meters in width is about to open its doors for the public. This bridge is unique in Europe as it’s the widest one and designed not just for motorists but also for pedestrians and cyclists. It connects Floirac on the right bank with Bègles on the left bank, providing a convenient link between the two areas.
As the final touches are put in place, project manager Bertrand Arnauld de Sartre oversees the preparations. He explains that the bridge has been designed to accommodate all modes of transportation, including cars, buses, bicycles, and pedestrians. Two lanes have been designated for cars and buses, while a dedicated cycle path runs alongside a spacious forecourt for pedestrians.
The focus on multi-modal accessibility is a reflection of modern urban environments’ evolving needs and priorities. By providing designated lanes and paths for different modes of transportation, this bridge aims to promote sustainable and active forms of commuting while ensuring smooth traffic flow for all users.
This bridge’s commitment to inclusivity extends beyond its design. It will be accessible to users starting from July 3rd, marking a significant milestone in creating an infrastructure that prioritizes safety and convenience for all members of society.
