Empowering Young Minds: UN Representative Stresses Importance of Creativity for Vietnam’s Growth as a Regional Innovation Center

The United Nations representative in Vietnam has highlighted the importance of targeting innovators and young people to promote creativity in order to make Vietnam a regional innovation center. Ms. Paluline Tamesis, UN Representative in Vietnam, made these remarks at the 2024 World Creativity and Innovation Day response ceremony organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology. She commended Vietnam for its progress and potential, as evidenced by its ranking on the global innovation index (GII), and emphasized the role of creativity in achieving development goals.

Ms. Tamesis emphasized the need for inspirational innovation in areas such as green technologies and technology to reduce carbon emissions. She stressed that creativity is not limited to scientists but also includes young people and ethnic minority groups, and encouraged empowering young people in STEM fields. Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat also spoke about Vietnam’s transition to a growth model based on science, technology, and innovation.

The Minister outlined three key tasks to promote creativity and innovation, including raising awareness about their role in socio-economic development, developing a national innovation system, and launching innovation activities in 2024. This ceremony marked the third year that the Ministry of Science and Technology organized an event to respond to World Creativity and Innovation Day, with the aim of raising awareness and promoting innovation activities.
