Elon Musk Withdraws Lawsuit Against Sam Altman and OpenAI

In a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk has dropped his lawsuit against OpenAI and two of its co-founders just one day before a scheduled hearing in San Francisco. The Tesla CEO had sued the AI startup in March, accusing the company of straying from its original nonprofit mission.

Musk founded OpenAI with Sam Altman and Greg Brockman in 2015, but he left the company in 2018. In his lawsuit, Musk claimed that Altman and Brockman had betrayed OpenAI’s mission for humanity by forming a profit-focused partnership with Microsoft. However, legal experts questioned the strength of Musk’s case, as there was no written contract between Musk and Altman to support his claims of breach of contract.

OpenAI responded to the lawsuit by calling it “incoherent” and “contradictory,” insinuating that Musk’s motives may have been rooted in jealousy. Despite this, Musk continued to criticize the company, especially targeting Altman. However, lawyers for Altman, OpenAI, and Musk have not provided comments to the media regarding the lawsuit. This is an evolving story, and updates will be provided as they become available.
