The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced a $140 million, 10-year contract with catcher Will Smith, bringing their spending on key players to nearly $1.4 billion since December. This new deal supersedes an $8.85 million, one-year agreement previously reached in January. At just 28 years old, Smith was a first-time All-Star last year and had a standout season with a .261 average, 19 homers, and 76 RBIs.

Through his six seasons with the Dodgers, Smith has hit for an average of .263 and has collected 91 homers and 308 RBIs. With this latest signing, the Dodgers now have a total commitment of $1,365,687,500 to five key players. This includes two-way star Shohei Ohtani ($700 million for 10 years), right-handers Yoshinobu Yamamoto ($325 million for 12 years) and Tyler Glasnow ($136,562,500 for five years), outfielder Teoscar Hernandez ($23.5 million for one year), and now Will Smith as well.
