Pelicans Struggle on Three-Game Losing Streak Against the Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs (18-58, 15th in the Western Conference) will face off against the New Orleans Pelicans (45-31, seventh in the Western Conference) in New Orleans on Friday at 8 p.m. EDT. The Pelicans are coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak, while the Spurs have won just one of their last 13 games.

The Pelicans have a record of 9-6 against opponents in the Southwest Division and are ranked eighth in the league for allowing just 110.6 points per game while holding opponents to 46.1% shooting. On the other hand, the Spurs are 1-13 against the rest of the division and have a record of 10-30 in games decided by 10 points or more.

When it comes to shooting percentages, both teams have similar numbers this season. The Pelicans are shooting 48.6% from the field, while the Spurs allow their opponents to shoot slightly higher at 49.0%. However, one thing that sets these two teams apart is their performance against opponents from their own division.

The Pelicans have had success against teams within their division this season, winning nine out of their sixteen games played against them. They rank eighth in the league for scoring an average of just over 107 points per game when facing divisional opponents. In contrast, the Spurs have struggled mightily against teams from their own division, losing all but one of their sixteen games played against them.

Despite these differences, both teams have some impressive players that they rely on to help them win games.

For the Pelicans, Jonas Valanciunas is shooting an impressive 56% from field this season and averaging nearly double that number with his free throws alone. He also averages an impressive eight rebounds per game and is currently leading his team in assists with six per contest.

Zion Williamson has been instrumental in helping his team win games as well, averaging over twenty points per game this season and leading his team with an average of six rebounds per game as well.

On the other hand, Victor Wembanyama has been a force for San Antonio this season, averaging twenty-one points per game along with ten rebounds and seven assists per contest as well as three blocks per game.

Devin Vassell has been an important part of San Antonio’s offense lately too , averaging nearly eighteen points over last ten games.

In terms of injuries both teams have some players missing out on action for various reasons . Brandon Ingram and Jose Alvarado are out for New Orleans , while Jeremy Sochan , Devin Vassell , Keldon Johnson , Dominick Barlow and Charles Bassey are dealing with injuries for San Antonio .
