Free health screenings and classes offered in Detroit for Public Health Week

Public Health Week is being held in Detroit, with free health screenings available to residents throughout the week. The Detroit Health Department has teamed up with various organizations, including the police department and recreation centers, to host a range of events and screenings.

Last year, the event included vaccines in addition to the screenings that are offered this year. This year’s offerings include checks for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and kidney function, as well as HIV and syphilis testing, fitness classes, CPR and Narcan training, mental health makeovers, lead screenings, and a men’s panel discussion called Cuts and Conversations.

Screenings and events will take place at different locations throughout the week. On Wednesday, senior health and wellness screenings will be held at St. Pat’s Senior Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Thursday, health and wellness screenings will be offered at Patton Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by an iDecide Teen Open House at Detroit Health Department from 5-7:30 p.m. On Friday, a Justice Walk will take place at 2875 W. Grand Blvd from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., while on Saturday Cuts and Conversations will be held at Heilmann Recreation Center and Ford Resource from noon to 2 p.m., along with Mental Health Makeover and Massages at the same location
