Charlie Ward Champions Ranch Sports Complex: Bringing Excitement to Tallahassee’s Eastside

The Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Commission has recommended rezoning the area near the intersection of Capital Circle Southeast and Woodville Highway for the development of the Charlie Ward Champions Ranch sports complex. This exciting project, named after former FSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward, will feature multi-sport fields, courts, a golf course and driving range, as well as walking trails and park areas. Approximately one-third of the property will be designated for retail and event spaces.

Local residents are thrilled about this new addition to their neighborhood. Pickleball player Spencer Duffey believes that the sports complex will offer much-needed amenities in the area. Parents like Miesha Barrington are excited about having more recreational options for their children closer to home. Barrington, a parent of five, frequently visits Four Oaks Park, located a few miles away from the proposed site. She looks forward to having more options for her kids to enjoy.

The Charlie Ward Champions Ranch will span 109.36 acres and provide an excellent opportunity for athletes of all ages to hone their skills in various sports. The project still needs approval from the city commission before it can proceed, but it is anticipated that a vote on rezoning will take place at the commission’s meeting on August 21st.
