Lola’s Fundraiser supports Charleston small business following devastating fire

A tragic fire on March 18 has left a family of eight children and their parents homeless in Charleston, West Virginia. The Backus family is now struggling to rebuild their lives after losing everything in the fire.

Corey Austin, a manager at Lola’s on Bridge Road, has known the Backus family for years and expressed his love for them. Describing them as “awesome,” he said he was determined to help the family during this difficult time. In response, Lola’s has decided to donate all proceeds from Tuesday evening to the Backus family.

Lola’s will be accepting donations throughout the week and all sales from Tuesday evening, including in-house dining and to-go orders, will go directly to the family. This generous gesture by Lola’s is just one way the community is coming together to support the Backus family in their time of need.

The Backus family owns Liberty Roe Children’s Clothier and Toy Co. in the South Hills area, but they are not alone in their struggle. The community is rallying around them with outpourings of support and generosity that are a testament to the strength and compassion of Charleston during times of crisis.
