The Cervantes Institute and Apple Music have joined forces with a group of influential artists to launch a project celebrating the best Spanish song lyrics in history, coinciding with Spanish Language Day on April 23. Artists such as Andrés Calamaro, Bunbury, and Zahara have curated playlists featuring their favorite Spanish song lyrics on Apple Music, complete with detailed comments, song fragments, and author names. Many of the songs included in the project have synchronized lyrics for users to follow along or sing.
The Cervantes Institute has also launched its profile as a curator on Apple Music, offering playlists such as ‘The word in music’, ‘Learn Spanish with music’, a selection by Spanish writer Luis Mateo Díez, and ‘What sounds at the Cervantes Institute’. The collaboration between the Cervantes Institute and Apple Music aims to showcase the cultural heritage of Spanish music and highlight the richness of the Spanish language through various genres.
According to Luis García Montero, director of the Cervantes Institute, both high culture and popular culture are important in promoting the Spanish language. He emphasized that this project not only celebrates the value of words in music but also contributes to the learning of Spanish for students worldwide. Montero made these comments during an event in Madrid where artists Rozalen and El Chojin were also present.
