Collaborative efforts ignite passion for science

For three years now, Whitewater High School’s National Honor Society students have been volunteering to mentor the Sara Harp Minter Elementary Science Olympiad team. They visit the Mountain Lions on Friday mornings, bringing with them hands-on activities and games to help the students deepen their understanding of science concepts and improve their skills for upcoming competitions.

The mentors at Whitewater High are not only passionate about science but also dedicated to supporting the young scientists in their journey. They are actively involved with the Whitewater STEAM bus and have even inspired some of the Minter students to continue competing in Science Olympiad as they transition into middle school.

Stacy McClanahan, 1st-grade teacher Kristi Soong, and Whitewater High science teachers Kathryn Dupree and Shelley Kozlowski work together to facilitate this collaboration between the two schools. Their goal is to inspire a love for science in young minds and build relationships within the Whitewater community. The mentors from Whitewater High demonstrate a strong desire to develop meaningful connections with the Mountain Lions, which Minter greatly appreciates.
