Breaking the Barriers: Achieving Health Equity in the Workplace through Employer Leadership Summit

The first annual Health Equity in the Workforce Leadership Summit, hosted by the American Heart Association, was a resounding success. The event brought together representatives from various local businesses to discuss and share information on how to better support the health equity of their employees.

One of the key speakers at the summit was Tiffany Gholston, board chair of the American Heart Association of the Triangle, who emphasized that healthcare should not be approached with a one-size-fits-all mentality. She highlighted that many employers have good intentions but may not know where to begin when it comes to addressing health equity in the workplace.

Notable companies such as Deloitte, IBM, Lenovo, and Advanced Auto Parts had representatives present at the event. Faculty members from Duke University and North Carolina State University were also in attendance to discuss the challenges faced by recent graduates entering the local workforce.

Gholston underscored that healthcare is an essential aspect of employee wellbeing and that employers must take a proactive approach to ensure their employees have access to appropriate resources. The American Heart Association aims to equip employers with the necessary tools and resources to support the health equity of their employees effectively.
