At the New York Institute for Special Education, scientists from the Bronx gathered recently to showcase their discoveries at an annual science fair. This year’s theme was “chemical reaction,” and all projects were displayed in braille to accommodate the visually impaired students who participated.
Despite facing unique challenges, the students were thrilled to be part of the event and share their work with others. Nestor Alfonso, a junior in high school, expressed his gratitude for being able to participate in the fair. He emphasized how important it is for visually impaired students to have access to hands-on science projects like this one, which are typically offered in public schools.
The science fair was a huge success and provided a platform for these students to demonstrate their scientific skills and passion for learning, despite their visual impairments.
