Boston Celtics Secure Frontcourt Depth with Luke Kornet and Neemias Queta Re-signings Amid Free Agency Frenzy

The Boston Celtics have quickly solidified their frontcourt after the NBA free agency opened on Sunday. The team re-signed Luke Kornet to a one-year deal and brought back Neemias Queta on a multi-year contract.

Queta, who just turned 25, originally signed a two-way contract with the Celtics last year and impressed enough during the season to earn a standard contract in April. In his first season with Boston, Queta averaged 5.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in limited playing time. He made history as the first Portuguese NBA player to win a championship, which makes his return even more crucial as Kristaps Porzingis is expected to be out until November or December.

The re-signing of Kornet and Queta provides the Celtics with much-needed depth as they navigate Porzingis’ injury and the need to manage Al Horford’s workload. With only five players remaining on the free-agent market for Boston, decisions will need to be made on Xavier Tillman, JD Davison, Oshae Brissett, Svi Mykhailiuk, and restricted free agent Drew Peterson.
