The return of college football to SHI Stadium is a highly anticipated event, and this week, Rutgers football announced that the blackout game will take place on September 27 when Washington makes a trip to Piscataway. Presented by Horizon, the game will be aired on FOX at 8 p.m., and fans are encouraged to wear black and arrive early to see the pregame light and fireworks show. This marks the first time during the 2024 campaign that Rutgers players will wear their black uniforms and helmets, with fans receiving a Rutgers Blackout t-shirt upon entering the stadium.
The pregame festivities will include some of the top food trucks in the state and live entertainment. Giveaways will include “Beat Washington” buttons and shakers, as well as recognition for football letter winners and the 2024 Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame class during the game.
As both programs prepare for this matchup, Rutgers is looking forward to their first win against Washington in school history. The Huskies currently hold a 2-0 all-time advantage over Rutgers, with their last meeting taking place in 2017. However, this will be the first time they face off in Big Ten play, as Washington was previously in the Pac-12.
The only other themed game that has been announced so far is the ‘Community Game’ on September 7 when Akron visits SHI Stadium. The return of college football to SHI Stadium brings excitement and themed nights to look forward to throughout the season.
Rutgers football fans can start planning their outfits for the blackout game on September 27th! With a chance to witness history being made at SHI Stadium, it’s an event not to be missed!
