Beyond the Sum of Parts: How the Global Community is Tackling Biodiversity Loss

The global community is facing unprecedented challenges in protecting biodiversity due to factors such as invasive species, pollution, and climate change. These challenges are largely a result of human activities, which have led to the decline of many plant and animal populations worldwide. Despite these challenges, initiatives like those in Gorongosa National Park offer hopeful stories of wildlife recovery that are crucial for both the wildlife and the surrounding community.

Several international bodies, including IPBES, the United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP 15), and CITES, work towards biodiversity conservation. However, these organizations do not always integrate each country’s individual conservation plans, raising questions about how they collaborate and the challenges of working as an international community to protect global biodiversity.
