On Saturday, Baylor secured a 5-2 victory over Florida in the Gainesville Super Regional. The Bears’ three-run home run, which was hit by Shaylon Govan and scored by RyLee Crandall, was instrumental in their win. This forced a decisive third game in the series. Baylor is now 36-22, while Florida is 50-13. The winner of Sunday’s game will secure a spot in the Women’s College World Series.
In the bottom of the first inning, a walk and a single set up Govan’s 11th home run of the season off Keagan Rothrock. Despite Reagan Walsh’s home run for Florida in the second inning, Baylor quickly answered back with Taylor Strain scoring on a wild pitch after hitting a single.
Florida managed to score again in the fifth inning with Skylar Wallace’s RBI single, but Baylor added an insurance run in the sixth when Ana Watson scored on a sacrifice fly after hitting a leadoff single by another player. Rothrock was replaced as Florida’s pitcher after Govan hit his home run and was finished off by Ava Brown at the end of the game.
