Bangladesh advanced to the Super Eight round of the T20 World Cup 2024 after defeating Nepal by 21 runs. The match featured several notable statistical highlights, including a record-breaking performance from Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
Sakib delivered a career-best performance with figures of 4 for 7, as Bangladesh successfully defended a total of 106 against Nepal. This is the lowest total defended by any team in a full 20-over game at the men’s T20 World Cup, surpassing the previous record of 113 for 6, defended by South Africa against Bangladesh in New York last week.
In addition to this, Sakib bowled an impressive 21 dot balls in the match, which is the most by any bowler in a men’s T20 World Cup game. This surpasses the previous record of 20 dot balls bowled by nine bowlers, including seven in the ongoing edition.
Both Bangladesh and Nepal got bowled out in the match, making it only the third instance in men’s T20 World Cup history where both teams were dismissed. This has happened twice before – with Australia and Pakistan in 2010 and Sri Lanka and New Zealand in 2014.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman each conceded only 7 runs in their four overs against Nepal, tying with Rishad Hossain for the joint-fewest runs conceded by Bangladesh in a men’s T20I. Despite Nepal’s partnership of 52 runs for the first wicket, their total of 85 against Bangladesh is the third-lowest all-out total in men’s T20Is featuring a fifty partnership.
Overall, Bangladesh’s total of 106 all out is also the fifth-lowest total by a Full Member against an Associate at men’s T20Is, with their previous lowest being 108 all out against Hong Kong during the T20 World Cup
