The General Services Administration (GSA) has announced the appointment of Larry Bafundo as the new permanent executive director for the Technology Modernization Fund (TMF). Prior to this position, Bafundo served as the TMF’s deputy executive director and has extensive experience leading complex digital initiatives in both public and private sectors.
Bafundo’s leadership will be crucial in driving innovation and delivering secure and seamless services to the American public. His experience in overseeing large-scale IT modernization projects, such as a $2 billion project to upgrade unemployment insurance systems at the Department of Labor, will be valuable in guiding the TMF team through its current challenges.
Katy Kale, GSA Deputy Administrator, expressed confidence in Bafundo’s abilities and emphasized the importance of investing in IT modernization projects through the TMF. She highlighted that the TMF team will continue to deliver meaningful results for both GSA and other federal agencies.
This announcement comes at a time when there are calls from federal IT leaders and lawmakers to revitalize the TMF, as it is nearing the end of its America Rescue Plan funding. However, with Bafundo’s leadership, there is hope that the program will continue to advance IT modernization efforts within the federal government.
