Avoiding Heat Exhaustion: Proper Use of Air Conditioning and Dehydration Tips

Proper use of air conditioning is essential to prevent heat stroke and other health problems associated with heat exposure. According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hau from Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi, rapid changes in temperature can trigger heat stroke, especially when moving from hot outdoor environments to a cold air-conditioned room. Certain individuals, such as outdoor workers, children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic conditions like cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and diabetes, are at higher risk of experiencing heat-related problems.

To avoid dehydration caused by air conditioning, it is important to maintain proper hydration levels. Dr. Hau recommends maintaining room temperatures between 25-28 degrees Celsius and using additional cooling methods like electric fans when necessary. Additionally, taking breaks from air-conditioning and staying hydrated are crucial for overall well-being.

Using air conditioning at moderate temperatures and not excessively lowering them is essential to prevent health complications associated with air conditioning. Proper ventilation and regular air conditioner maintenance are also important factors to consider when using air conditioning safely and responsibly. By following appropriate guidelines and adopting healthy practices, individuals can mitigate the risks associated with air conditioning and ensure their well-being during hot weather conditions.
