Austin FC finally secured their first win of the season with a thrilling 2-1 victory over FC Dallas on Saturday night. The goals came from two unlikely sources, Diego Rubio and Julio Cascante, who each scored to lead their team to victory.
Rubio’s second goal of the season was set up by a perfectly placed pass from Sebastián Driussi in the 70th minute. Rubio expertly headed the ball home from close range, putting his team ahead.
Dallas had taken an early lead when Eugene Ansah scored in the 51st minute. However, Cascante quickly equalized for Austin just a couple of minutes later with a well-placed header that beat the Dallas goalkeeper.
Throughout the match, Austin dominated possession with 65% of the ball and outshot Dallas 16-7. Both goalkeepers made three saves each during the game.
The win was a much-needed boost for Austin FC, who now have a record of 1-2-3. On the other hand, FC Dallas suffered their fourth consecutive loss since their season-opening victory against San Jose Earthquakes.
